US musician and internet personality Oliver Tree is believed to be among six people who sadly passed when their helicopter collided with another in Brazil on Sunday, 14th June.
Recognised by his distinctive bowl-cut, the alt-pop star is known for tracks Life Goes On, Miss You and Alien Boy among many others. He first rose to notoriety in 2016 after going viral on social media, and went on to record four studio albums.
Tree had recently departed from Atlantic Records and released his latest offering independently, before starting an enormous world tour. His most recent show was in São Paulo, Brazil, on 6 June. He would have played in the UK this September.
Authorities say an investigation into the cause of the helicopter collision is underway.
While the bodies have not yet been identified, the other passengers on the helicopter are believed to be Lucas Brito Chaves, Lucas Vignale and pilot Alexandre Souza. Argentine content creator Gaspar Prim Diaz - also known as Gaspi - was also believed to have been in one of the helicopters, according to the BBC / Associated Press.
After the news hit social media, fans flooded the comments section of posts thanking Oliver Tree for his music, along with collaborators and artists expressing their grief.
Diplo: "I don't think we'll ever have another human like this again. No rules. No apologies. He was 1000% himself and on a mission to add more joy to this music scene. I've never experienced anyone with this high a level of vibration."
KSI: “Can't believe I'm actually having to type this. You're 32, man. You should still be here. You still had so much life to live. So much music to make. So much content to make. You're a legend and will always be a legend. Still doesn't feel real. Genuinely feel sick. I love you, bro."
Before this tragic incident, Oliver Tree had already shared plans for his will and how money would be given back to artists. Back in April, he was also reflecting, "that's when people appreciate you, when you’re not there anymore". Tree explained that he intended to set up his own foundation, Dr Oliver Tree’s Art Grants For Baby Geniuses.
