KEO have announced the second single from their highly anticipated debut record, Put A Smile On For Me. While most of KEO’s music has been teased at live shows, it remained unreleased. Pistol, however, which is track #6 on the album, is completely brand new.

The track follows the release of That’s Meearlier this year, a roaring belter which coincided with the album announcement and an overflowing pop-up show at Elephants Head in Camden.

Pistol will receive its first play exclusively on BBC Radio 1 this Wednesday, 15th July, at 6:30 pm BST. As of now, we don’t have the actual release date for the single.

Sonically, it’s still up to interpretation how the track will unfold. KEO have teased a couple of clips as the band plays the single in an environment which can only be described as Breaking Bad-esque.

From these brief moments, Pistol sounds reminiscent of Deftones, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Weezer, and popular music interviewer Gigs With Glenn has likened it to Foo Fighters.

In their newsletter, KEO explain:

“I had the imagery of dead stars stuck in my head when writing ‘Pistol’. The idea of something having died years ago but only now seeing its light. I think that imagery can be just as real with people.”

KEO’s debut album will be released on 25th September via Island Records. It marks the next studio project for the rock trailblazers after their debut EP, Siren, which included the enormous singles I Lied, AmberThorn, and Hands. Put A Smile On For Me was written and recorded over just ten days, with Finn and guitarist Jimmy Lanwern choosing to self-produce to capture the raw, intense energy of their live shows.

To support the release, they have announced a string of enormous UK headline shows this Autumn, culminating at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town. This venue, which holds roughly 2300 people, was a bucket-list spot for the band to play. There are very limited tickets remaining across all dates, with most appearing to be sold out.

  • 24/10 - O2 Guildhall, Southampton

  • 25/10 - Tramshed, Cardiff

  • 27/10 - O2 Academy, Glasgow

  • 29/10 - O2 Academy, Liverpool

  • 30/10 - O2 Forum Kentish Town, London

Hear ‘Pistol’ first on BBC Radio 1 this Wednesday, 15th July, at 6:30 pm BST.
