It’s official. The Irish-grunge band everyone is talking about, Bleech 9:3, is releasing their debut EP this May after being snapped up by Polydor Records.
The band was formed by Baz Quinlan (vocals/guitar) and Sam Duffy (guitar) when they met at AA, and Baz became Sam’s sponsor. Since then, they’ve created a musical partnership which saw them move from Dublin to London in 2024.
On reflection, Duffy explained: “I think to find someone your own age, with the same dreams as you, from the same city and who is also suffering from the same thing…we knew immediately that we could help each other.”
One of the first tracks the pair jammed together was Underated, which is the single they recently released alongside the EP announcement. Baz explains:
“I wrote it at the end of 2024; it was one of the first Bleech songs that we jammed back then. Bad worship is a theme that runs through the EP. I felt driven to write about how it twists love into something else. How the twisting becomes the thing that you end up wanting.”
Those who have caught Bleech 9:3 live know there is a hype surrounding them. The group commands with ease every time. Their spontaneous free-entry show at Elephant’s Head in Camden recently was tipped as one of the buzziest shows of the year, with people scrambling for a glimpse through the steamy windows.
Bleech 9:3 have just finished a support slot with KEO, and their Spring UK tour, which includes an appearance at SCALA, is sold out, and their Autumn tour isn’t far behind.
The EP will contain all of the previously released singles, along with No Surprise.
Tracklist:
Jacky
Underrated
Cannonball
No Surprise
Ceiling
We’ll be catching Bleech 9:3 at Sound City in Liverpool this weekend, stay tuned for our coverage on social media.
It also appears that the band are teasing a vinyl for the EP.
