Earlier this month, in January, several artists began sharing mysterious content from War Child, hinting at a possible project on the horizon.
This update stated “a group of artists who are working on something important in support of War Child” and then highlighted n the 35 years since the original ‘Help’ charity album was released, the number of children affected by conflict has “nearly doubled”. Some of the artists who shared the content were Fontaines D.C., English Teacher and FOALS.
Little is known about the album or the music involved. However, inevitably, the project will raise significant funds for War Child to support children involved in conflict.
The lead artist involved is Arctic Monkeys, who have supported War Child on several occasions in their career. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they also released a live album from their iconic performance at the Royal Albert Hall and donated the proceeds.
Many fans have flooded the comments section of the War Child social media page(s), sparking controversy over Arctic Monkeys' disbandment. This, as always, is false and, regardless, takes attention away from the cause. It’s common knowledge that Arctic Monkeys takes breaks between album campaigns, their last tour supporting ‘The Car’ finished late 2023, after 119 shows.
The first single drops today, 22nd January. The track will come alongside further information about the project.
If a new charity record is confirmed by War Child, it will follow on from the 1995 ‘Help’ album that featured Oasis, Blur, Radiohead, Massive Attack, Suede and more.
