There’s an abundance of talent originating from Dublin at the moment, so much so that the spotlight is closely on the city.
For Nina is yet another emerging band hailing from the historic city, and they are already making waves with their recent tracks Swallow and Hounds. We sat down with the band to talk about how things started, how they feel about Dublin and what’s on the horizon.
Where did the idea behind For Nina originate from?
The band itself originated in college, where we mostly met and stumbled together through gigs and pints and more gigs. Then we realised how well we clicked as musicians.
How did the three of you get into music?
It was quite different for each of us, all coming from different genres really (metal, rock, folk), but I think mainly there was no key moment where we each ‘got into’ it per se, it’s just always been there!
There's a lot of groundbreaking music emerging from Dublin. What does the city mean to you, and does it influence your music?
Dublin is a complicated city. It’s super small, super rainy and absolutely exploding with talent. We all love Dublin, it’s our home and the music we make, certainly right now, suits it.
It's impressive how versatile you are, between Hounds and Swallow. How did Swallow come together in the early stages?
Swallow was actually a song Holly (guitar, vocals) wrote years ago and forgot about. We quite literally stumbled across the voice memo and decided we had to give it a go. It took a little bit of twisting around but once we got there it made perfect sense. Hard to imagine it got lost in the voice memos for 4 years.
Was there any particular music you listened to while making Swallow?
We’re all constantly listening to a million different things, Swallow has some Irish folk in the chorus but the ending feels something closer to the Cranberries. Classic Irish answer there.
What's next for For Nina? An EP on the horizon?
Definitely more tunes. Definitely more gigs. Definitely more…something!
